AUDIOLOGY  &  AUDITORY-VERBAL THERAPY

Audiologist -  Kristen Armstrong, Au.D.

Picture
Kristen's interest in Audiology stems from having a sister who developed hearing loss as an infant, and a longing to help her stay ahead of the best technology available.  Kristen obtained her Masters Degree in Audiology from the University of North Texas.  In July of 2009, she completed her Doctorate Degree in Audiology (Au.D.) through the University of Pennsylvania.  Before working at Austin Ear Clinic, Kristen worked for a private hearing aid practice for several years fitting and dispensing hearing aids.  While with the practice she managed a satellite clinic in Georgetown.  She joined Austin Ear Clinic in January 2007.  She administers neurodiagnostic testing (ABR, OAE, ECOG, VNG, ENOG), and also fits and dispenses a wide variety of hearing aid types (including the new Lyric).

Audiologist & Auditory-Verbal Therapist   -  Amy Gensler, M.A., CCC-A, LSLS Cert. AVT

Picture
Amy is a native Texan. She finished her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Audiology (with honors) at The University of Texas at Austin. She then completed her clinical fellowship at Texas ENT Consultants in the Houston Medical Center, where she was in charge of all neurodiagnostic testing (ABR, OAE) and hearing aid fittings for infants and young children. She is currently the only specialist in Austin and Central Texas who is certified to provide Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) for children with hearing loss. In July of 2009, she completed 3+ years of post-graduate work for her AVT certification (throught the AG Bell Foundation's Academy for Listening & Spoken Language). Amy joined Austin Ear Clinic in 2002, where she has been coordinator for all cochlear implant services. In addition to AV Therapy, she provides cochlear implant programming and related services for patients from birth to 90+ years of age. She programs cochlear implants for all three FDA approved manufacturers (Cochlear Americas, Advanced Bionics, Med-El). You can contact her by e-mail at: amylynngensler@yahoo.com

Audiology Patient Care Coordinator  -  Janey Winkley, R.N.

Janey Winkley joined Austin Ear Clinic in June 2008.  She brings with her many years of nursing, office and customer service experience.  Janey graduated in 1971 from Missouri Baptist Hospital Diploma School of Nursing.  Her first and most exciting nursing job was at the Baptist Medical Center in Nalerigu, Ghana (West Africa), where she worked as a missionary nurse.  In the United States she has worked at various hospitals in Missouri, Colorado, Louisiana, and Texas.  Her fields of service include medical, surgical, urology, labor, delivery, post-partum, and nursery (both newborn and pediatric ICU).

Before joining Austin Ear Clinic, Janey used her spare time to manage her husband's office for over 20 years.  Janey has six children and ten grandchildren.  One of her twin daughters contracted meningitis at 9 months of age, leaving her with profound sensorineural hearing loss in one ear, and a mid frequency hearing loss in the other ear (later fitted with a hearing aid).  Janey's other daughter, Kristen, became an audiologist and now works for Austin Ear Clinic.  Janey enjoys spending time with her family, playing competitive games, traveling, sewing, baking, reading, going for walks, and spending time out on the lake.  She enjoys interacting with people on a daily basis and believes in great customer service.  As an Audiology Patient Care Coordinator, she is happy to serve you as a patient of Austin Ear Clinic.  You can contact Janey by e-mail - janey@austinear.com
