Patrick Slater, MD

Neurotologist and Skull Base Surgeon

Patrick Slater, MD, is a board‑certified otolaryngologist with fellowship training in neurotology and skull base surgery. Neurotology is a subspecialty of ENT that requires residency training in otolaryngology followed by advanced fellowship training focused on disorders of the ear, hearing, balance system, and skull base.

Dr. Slater has more than 20 years of experience diagnosing and treating conditions of the ears, nose, throat, head, and neck. He provides advanced ENT, hearing, balance, and minimally invasive treatment options at Austin Ear, Sinus and Allergy in Austin, Texas.

Professional Background

Dr. Slater earned his degree in chemistry from Duke University in 1985 and completed his medical degree at East Carolina University School of Medicine in 1990. He then completed a residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at Louisiana State University in 1996.

Following residency, Dr. Slater completed a two‑year ACGME‑accredited fellowship in Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at The Ohio State University in 1998. He is among a select group of board‑certified neurotologists practicing in the Austin metropolitan area.

Dr. Slater has extensive experience managing Eustachian tube disorders, hearing and balance conditions, and skull base diseases such as acoustic neuroma. His training allows him to care for complex ear and lateral skull base conditions using both traditional and minimally invasive approaches.

Throughout his career, Dr. Slater has contributed to clinical innovation in ear and skull base surgery, including the development of surgical techniques and patents related to ear‑related conditions. He has been involved in ongoing research on pulsatile tinnitus and other otologic disorders, with the goal of expanding safe, effective treatment options for patients.
Individual treatment results may vary.

His professional memberships include the American Neurotologic Society, American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, Triological Society, Travis County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Association of Physicians and Surgeons, Acoustic Neuroma Association, and American Tinnitus Association, among others.
